they went into fiscal cliff talks in december and except for a 24-hour period had no mention of entitlement cuts. we have moved back in the last six months from where they were. chris: it seems to me that we're back on this polarization that we're talking about. the hard right, leave my guns alone. i'm not paying a dollar more in taxes. i hate the federal government. they're very polarized. on the left, ok, i got a few things i'm getting from the government, don't take them away from me. >> i think that's true. what is called for here is leadership. if you can't get this done, which is to say, face up to problems of entitlement with a second-term president who is not running for re-election the next time and a progressive president. if you can't get it done with him over the next 3 1/2 years, i simply don't know when you'll get it done. this is a moment to do it, the cry for leadership. a few men and women can do it under the president's leadership, just a few in the senate and house who are prepared to say, i'm going to pay the price at the polls if i must, but i'm going to lead this count

we have the fiscal cliff at the end of the year, nothing was done. then in the 11th hour -- actually it was the are 15th hour, it was two and half hours after we went off the cliff. what did they do? they raised taxes, didn't cut spending. and postponed some of the other issues like the debt ceiling which is going to come up quickly in the new year and has been postponed to may 19. we also have a sequestration that was postponed for two months and that is coming back at the end of february. we govern by c.r., we have a continuing resolution debate coming up on or before the 27th of march. we have spread these crisis out over the first half of the year. that is difficult for the economy to manipulate. as we started to see fundamental improvement else, where we will see refocusing on the inability of our government to come to terms with its spending, taxes, and debt and deficits. that will continually, i believe, rival markets and call into question the optimistic factors we're seeing. i would like to call the panel up here. we're going to start going

we have the fiscal cliff at the end of the year. nothing was done in the later part of the year. and then in the 11th hour, actually it wasn't the 11th hour. it was about the 15th hour, two and half hours after we went off the cliff of the house hold us back on and in the senate a day later. but what do they do? they raised taxes, didn't cut spending, and essentially postponed some of the other issues, like the debt ceiling, which was going to come up very quickly in the new year, and now has been postponed to may 19. we also have a sequestration but was postponed for two months and that's coming back at the end of february. and if that wasn't enough we have a c.r., since we don't pass budgeting now, we governed by c.r. we have a continuing resolution debate and vote coming up on or before the 27th of march. so what we have done is we've spread these crises out over the course of the whole first half of the year and that's going to be difficult for the economy to manipulate, because as we start istartto see fundamental improvt elsewhere, we will see continued refocusing on the in
